Rock Valley Man Seriously Injured In UTV vs Car Crash

Rock Valley, Iowa — A Rock Valley man was taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after the UTV he was driving collided with a car.

According to the accident report, the crash happened about 3:15 Monday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 18 and WestView Drive in western Rock Valley.

Rock Valley Police say a 2014 Polaris UTV, driven by 73-year-old James Boogerd of Rock Valley was northbound on WestView Drive and failed to stop for the stop sign at Highway 18, colliding with a westbound 2000 Buick LeSabre, driven by 61-year-old Lori Ann Davelaar of Hudson, South Dakota. According to authorities, the impact caused Boogerd, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt, to be thrown from the UTV, landing in the street.

Police say Boogerd was transported by Rock Valley Ambulance to Hegg Health with serious injuries.

Boogerd was cited for Failure to Stop for a Stop Sign and Yield Right-of-Way, as well as Failure to Use a Seatbelt.

Damage to each vehicle was estimated at $3,000.
