UPDATE: Sheldon Emergency Crews Respond To Crash

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sanborn man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Sheldon on Thursday, November 7, 2019

The Sheldon Police Department reports that about 2:20 p.m., 60-year-old Steven Brink of Sanborn was driving a 2007 Dodge minivan southbound in the parking lot of Wheelchair Dynamics, near Highway 18 and Washington Avenue in Sheldon. A 2006 Chevy SUV, also owned by Brink, was also parked in the lot.

The report says that Brink backed into his Chevy SUV, which was shoved into a 2005 Ford Escape, owned by Ian McNally of Ocheyedan, which was also in the parking lot. The Dodge that Brink was driving then went forward and crossed Highway 18, where it struck a tree and a guy wire on the south side of the street.

SCAT personnel took Brink to Sanford Sheldon Hospital.

The police say Brink’s Dodge minivan sustained $10,000 in damage, which was enough to total the vehicle. His Chevy SUV sustained $6000 in damages, and the Ford Escape, owned by McNally sustained about $3000 in damage.

Also damaged in the crash was a plastic marker on a power pole guy wire, owned by MidAmerican Energy, which was valued at $500; and a tree owned by Phil Kragt, which sustained about $50 in damage.

According to Sheldon Police, the accident remains under investigation.
