Sheldon Fire Co Battles Blaze In Dumpster

Sheldon, Iowa — No injuries were reported as the result of a fire inside a dumpster around 2:00 o’clock Monday afternoon.

According to the Sheldon Fire Company, they were paged out to a dumpster fire at 528 2nd Avenue in Sheldon, the former Bomgaars building. Firefighters say that on their arrival they encountered a fully engulfed roll-off dumpster next to a storage garage.

Assistant Chief Brad Hindt says firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and removed burnt carpeting and mattresses from the dumpster, which they say was owned by TC Home Furnishings of Sheldon.

Hindt says the cause of the fire is undetermined. He says the dumpster received heavy heat damage, while the storage building received minor damage.

The Sheldon Fire Company was assisted at the scene by the Sheldon Police Department. Hindt says firefighters were back in service at 3:30 Monday afternoon.
