Sheldon Fire Fighters Called To Car Fire

Sheldon, Iowa — A classic muscle car was severely damaged in a fire Monday afternoon in Sheldon.

Sheldon Assistant Fire Chief Brad Hindt says firefighters were called to the intersection of Highway 18 and Washington Avenue shortly before 2:15 Monday afternoon. He says on arrival fire fighters found a 1967 Chevy Camaro’s engine compartment on fire. He says fire fighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

The car’s driver stated that the engine backfired and they saw flames under the car’s hood. Hindt says the car received severe damage to the engine compartment and dash area. Fire fighters used about 100 gallons of water and were back in service at 3:00 pm.

Sheldon Fire was assisted by the Sheldon Police department and Sheldon EMA.
