Sheldon Man Accused Of Stealing Money From Parents’ Bank Account

Sheldon, Iowa — A Sheldon man was arrested on a warrant on Friday on an original charge of Theft in the Second Degree.

Forty-two-year-old David John Merley of Sheldon is accused of using his father’s debit card without consent and withdrawing a total of $3,201.50 from Don and Barb Merley’s bank account at Northwestern Bank in Sheldon between the dates of July 7th and July 15th, 2021. According to the criminal complaint, it was caught on video from the ATM at Northwestern Bank in Sheldon.

The Sheldon Police Department and O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office arrested David Merley on the warrant on Friday.

Records in the O’Brien County Clerk of Court’s Office indicate that a preliminary hearing on the case is scheduled for Tuesday, July 27th.
