Sheldon Woman Taken To Hospital After Accident

Hull, Iowa — A Sheldon resident was taken to a hospital after a crash in Hull on Monday evening, November 25th.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 5:15 p.m., 48-year-old Waylon Pollema of Hull was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Highway 18. They say 25-year-old Bahelea Geist of Sheldon was driving a 2005 Pontiac G6 westbound on Highway 18 behind Pollema. Pollema stopped on the roadway waiting for other vehicles before attempting to make a left turn and Geist struck the Pollema vehicle. (Pollema is a Sioux County Deputy Sheriff, but according to the Sheriff’s Office, Pollema was not on duty, and was in his private vehicle.)

The Sheriff’s Office says the Hull Ambulance Squad took Geist to Sioux Center Health. Pollema reported injuries and sought medical treatment on his own.

The vehicles sustained about $6,000 in damages, each.

Geist was cited on a charge of following too closely.

The sheriff’s office says the Hull Ambulance Squad and the Hull Fire Department assisted with the response to the accident.
