Sioux Center Area Corn Crib Damaged In Fire

Sioux Center, Iowa — A corn crib was damaged in a fire on Saturday, August 15, 2020 near Sioux Center.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, about noon, the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to the report of a corn crib fire at 2309 370th Street, eight miles west and two north of Sioux Center.

The chief says the fire department saw the roof of a corn crib burning as they approached the scene. He says they used water to fight the fire.

Van Holland says no injuries were reported.

The Rock Valley and Ireton firefighters were also paged, but Van Holland says they told them they could turn around when they found out what they were dealing with.

He says the cause of the fire appeared to be embers that landed on the roof from a burning log pile.

Chief Van Holland reports that there was very minimal damage, especially since the owners were considering tearing down the corn crib anyway.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for about half an hour.
