Sioux Center Man Facing Felony Assault Charge

Sioux Center, Iowa — A Sioux Center man faces a felony charge after his arrest on Tuesday in regard to a recent incident.

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that they arrested 56-year-old David DeReus of Sioux Center on Tuesday.

They say the arrest stemmed from a report of an assault that they say occurred at a location north of Sioux Center. Upon further investigation, deputies believe that DeReus and a female victim had become engaged in an altercation and DeReus allegedly assaulted the victim.

Deputies say DeReus left the area and was later located at a Sioux Center home.

DeReus was charged with third or subsequent domestic assault, a class D felony; domestic assault (strangulation), an aggravated misdemeanor; and obstruction of emergency communications, a simple misdemeanor.

The sheriff’s office says the Sioux Center Police Department and Sioux Center Ambulance Squad assisted them with the response to the incident.
