Sioux City Man Charged With Felony OWI Near Alton

Alton — A Sioux City man has been arrested on felony OWI and other charges near Alton.

According to a criminal complaint filed by the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office with the Sioux County Clerk of Court’s office, 29-year-old Felipe Lopez Martin was arrested on Saturday evening on Highway 60 near Alton.

The complaint states that the call started with the report of erratic driving on Highway 60 south of Hospers. The deputy states that Lopez Martin was located parked on the side of the road near mile marker 15 just southeast of Alton. According to the deputy, Lopez Martin had multiple open containers of alcoholic beverages in the vehicle. He also stated that Lopez Martin did not have a valid driver’s license, and his breath smelled of alcohol. The deputy says he had a hard time maintaining his balance and showed other signs of intoxication. He says he admitted to consuming four or five beers and failed a standardized field sobriety test. He also refused a field breath test.

Since Lopez Martin had been convicted on at least two previous occasions of driving under the influence in Nobles County Minnesota, this time he was charged with a felony.
