Three Fire Departments Extinguish Tire Fire Near Hospers

Hospers, Iowa — A number of tires were destroyed in a fire on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, near Hospers.

According to Hospers Fire Chief Jason Overmole, about 6:15 p.m., the Hospers Fire Department was called to the report of a tire fire at 4411 400th Street, a little less than half a mile west of Den Hartog Industries.

The chief says the fire department saw thick black smoke and large flames as they approached the scene. He says they used water and foam to fight the fire.

Overmole says no injuries were reported. He says the fire department was assisted by firefighters from Orange City and Alton.

According to Overmole, the cause of the fire is undetermined.

Chief Overmole reports that the fire destroyed 50-60 tires and damaged a semi-trailer that had been used for storage.

He says the firefighters who responded were on the scene for over an hour.
