Tractor-Trailer Accident Blamed On Strong Winds

George, Iowa — A Spirit Lake man was injured when high winds blew his tractor-trailer rig off the road Tuesday morning.

According to a report from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, the mishap took place shortly after 10:00 Tuesday morning at the intersection of Marsh Avenue and A34, six miles east of George.

Authorities say a westbound 2010 Freightliner truck and trailer, driven by Jared Weber of Spirit Lake attempted to pass a slowing vehicle when the strong winds pushed the truck off the road. Weber over-corrected, and lost control with the truck rolling onto its side, and sliding into the south ditch.

Deputies say Weber was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by George Fire and Rescue, Lyon County Ambulance, Iowa DNR and Trackside Towing of Alvord.
