Primghar, Iowa — Two people were transported to area hospitals in the aftermath of a 2-vehicle crash that happened shortly after 5:00 Friday afternoon (July 28th) northeast of Primghar.
According to O’Brien County Sheriff’s deputies, the crash took place when a 2000 Chevrolet pickup, driven by 31-year old Jason Engelkes of Sutherland, was eastbound on 380th Street. Engelkes told deputies that as he approached the stop sign at the intersection of 380th St. and Taft Avenue, his brakes failed. Deputies say Engelkes rolled through the stop sign at Taft Ave., into the path of a 2002 Dodge Durango, driven by 27-year old Jacqueline Maxwell of Urbandale, which was northbound on Taft Avenue. Maxwell’s Durange struck the Engelkes pickup broadside in the intersection, according to authorities.
Deputies say Engelkes was taken to the Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar by the Primghar ambulance with serious injuries, while Maxwell was transported by Sanborn ambulance to the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center with what were described as minor injuries.
Damage to the Engelkes pickup was estimated at $55-hundred, while damage to Maxwell’s Durango was estimated at $85-hundred.
Deputies say Engelkes was cited for Failure to Obey a Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.
