Two Plead Guilty In Separate Federal Drug Cases

Northwest Iowa — A Sioux City man and a man from Texas entered guilty pleas in connection with separate methamphetamine distribution conspiracy cases.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, 39-year-old Leroy Eric McCoy entered the guilty plea in a plea agreement with prosecutors. In that plea agreement, McCoy admitted to conspiring to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine around the tri-state area. McCoy was previously convicted in 2005 of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine near a private location and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

In the other case, federal prosecutors say 45-year-old Robert Board, who is originally  from Brownsville Texas and recently living in Medalia Minnesota, admitted that from July 2019 through June 2020, he was involved in the distribution of more than 500 grams of mixed methamphetamine and more than 50 grams of pure meth. In July and August 2019, Board was involved in the distribution of over one pound of pure methamphetamine to an informant in controlled drug operations with law enforcement. Board also admitted to obtaining at least 12 kilograms of methamphetamine and at least 73 pounds of marijuana from sources in California and Washington to transport to Minnesota and Iowa for further distribution.

Each man entered a guilty plea in federal district court in Sioux City to a Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine charge in the unrelated cases.

McCoy and Board are each scheduled for sentencing following pre-sentence investigations. Both are in the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing. They could each face sentences ranging from 15-years to life in a federal prison, a $20 million fine and supervised release after their imprisonment. There is no parole in the federal system.
