Rock Rapids, Iowa — A Brandon, South Dakota man was taken to a hospital, and about $300,000 damage was done two two semis that collided near Rock Rapids on Monday.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that 64-year-old Valentine Jenniges of Ellsworth, MN, was driving a 2005 Peterbilt Semi Tractor pulling a 2009 Timpte grain trailer westbound on IA Highway 9, about six miles east of Rock Rapids. They say 67-year-old Anthony Bosch of Brandon, SD, was driving a 2011 Kenworth Semi Tractor pulling a 2016 Wilson grain trailer northbound on Jay Avenue.
According to the report, the Bosch failed to yield at the stop sign at the intersection of Highway 9 and collided with the Jenniges semi in the intersection. Both vehicles were loaded with corn at the time of the collision.
Lyon County Sheriff Stewart Vander Stoep says both drivers were transported to hospitals. Bosch was transported by the Lyon County Ambulance Squad and Jenniges was transported by private vehicle.
Both vehicles were considered a total loss, sustaining a combined total of $300,000 in damage, according to the sheriff.
The Sheriff’s Office reports that the Rock Rapids Fire Department, Lyon County Ambulance Squad, the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, the Iowa Department of Transportation Road Crew, Cooperative Farmer’s Elevator, Stockton Towing, and Trackside Towing all assisted with the response to the accident.
