Wessels Arraignment Date Set

George, Iowa — The former Treasurer for the George Emergency Medical Services, or GEMS, will be arraigned next month on a Felony Theft charge.

47-year-old Chad Wessels was charged following an investigation by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, after the agency was contacted this fall about the possibility of missing funds from GEMS. According to the DCI, their investigation allegedly identified approximately $18,000 in unauthorized checks written to Wessels during his time as Treasurer. He is also accused of taking approximately $8,000 in cash donations .

According to online court records, Wessels is set for arraignment on the charge at 9:30 am on Monday January 6th.

Wessels is charged with 1st Degree Theft which is a Class C Felony. If convicted, he could face a fine of up to $10,000, and a prison term of up to 10 years.
