Woman Arrested In Sheldon Burglary Spree

Sheldon, Iowa — A Nemaha, Iowa woman was arrested Tuesday by Sheldon Police after allegedly being found hiding in the garage of a home she is accused of burglarizing.

Court records indicate that Sheldon Police received a call from a resident on Grant Street about 8:30 Tuesday morning, reporting that the victim had just returned home to find her doors open and believed that someone had been in her home. Upon investigation, officers learned that a second residence in the area had been burglarized and followed boot tracks in the snow from that residence to a third residence in the same neighborhood where officers allegedly found 30-year-old Dolly Vega-Rosas hiding in the home’s garage and placed her under arrest.

Court records show that Vega-Rosas faces one count of 2nd Degree Burglary, a Class C Felony, for allegedly illegally entering an occupied home, along with two counts of 3rd Degree Burglary, both of which are Class D Felonies. In addition, she faces a charge of 4th Degree Theft and one of 5th Degree Theft, both misdemeanor charges, after items from the three homes were allegedly found on her person at the time of her arrest, as well as Possession of Burglary Tools, which is an Aggravated Misdemeanor.

Vega-Rosas was transported to the O’Brien County Jail, where she picked up two additional charges after jailers say Vega-Rosas handed them a baggy containing a white crystalline substance that she allegedly admitted to jailers was narcotics. Officials say the substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine. As a result, she was charged with 2nd Offense Possession of Methamphetamine, an Aggravated Misdemeanor, as well as Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility, which is a Class D Felony.

Online court records indicate that Vega-Rosas made her initial court appearance Wednesday, with a Preliminary Hearing scheduled for 3:00 pm on Monday, January 18th in O’Brien County Magistrate Court.
