Woman Facing Felony Charge After Allegedly Driving To Jail In Stolen Vehicle

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The moral of the story is — if you’re going to bond your boyfriend out of jail, don’t do it in a stolen car.

A Sioux Falls woman now faces felony charges after she allegedly did just that.

According to a criminal complaint filed with the Lyon County Clerk of Court, 41-year-old Jaime Estenson of Sioux Falls is accused of driving a stolen vehicle to the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in Rock Rapids to bond her boyfriend out of jail. The arresting deputy’s statement says that it was discovered that Estenson’s privilege to operate motor vehicles was revoked. The deputy says she was unable to provide current registration or insurance documents for the red 2007 Chevy Suburban, and that further investigation allegedly showed the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Worthington, MN.

Estenson was arrested and was charged with first degree theft, a class C felony. If convicted of a class C felony charge, Estenson could face 10 years in prison and a fine of between a thousand and ten thousand dollars. A preliminary hearing has been set for Monday, July 18th.
