10-Year Old’s Generosity Brings George Woman To Tears

Sheldon, Iowa — Earlier this week the 2019 Survivor of the Year from the Sioux Falls region of the American Heart Association, Emily Denekas, appeared on the KIWA Morning Show to tell her story.

Denekas, along with her doctor, related the series of events that led to her emergency heart surgery two weeks after giving birth to premature twin daughters in September of 2016.

A few minutes after her appearance, a 10-year old Sheldon boy correctly answered the morning’s Movie Trivia question, which won him a movie pass for two. The young lad, Levi Lang of Sheldon, then told his dad, Chad Lang, that he wanted to give the movie pass to “the lady that just told her story on the radio, so she can take her kids to a movie.”

KIWA contacted both Levi and Emily, and made arrangements for them to meet so Levi could give her his movie pass. That meeting happened Friday morning at the KIWA Studios. After Levi presented Emily with the movie pass, she thanked him and they hugged.

Levi’s mom and dad had accompanied their generous son Friday morning, and after Levi gave Emily the movie pass, his dad, Chad Lang, gave her a gift card from his restaurant, Langer’s in Sheldon, so her family could have dinner out before the movie. After the presentation of the movie pass and restaurant card, Emily could be seen wiping tears from her eyes.

KIWA wants to say thank you to Emily for sharing her story on our Morning Show earlier this week. We also want to say thank you to Levi for his generosity in giving up his movie pass, and to his dad, for including a meal for the Denekas’ movie night, a gesture that not even we were aware was coming.
