18 Resurfacing In Progress Near Sanborn

Sanborn, Iowa — Work is underway on the final section of Highway 18 between Sheldon and Sanborn.

Most of that section of that stretch of Highway 18 was completed last summer, but there is, as DOT Cherokee Resident Engineer Steve McElmeel says, a small section yet to be completed.

The area under construction extends from near the cemetery west of Sanborn, for about two miles. The construction site traffic is being escorted through the area by a pilot car.

One of the motorists who made the trek Wednesday afternoon tells KIWA that, at the time he went through the construction zone, there was about a 40-minute wait, and he says he counted sixty-one vehicles coming through from the opposite direction, following the pilot car.

Once the Sheldon to Sanborn stretch of Highway 18 is complete, construction crews will be shifting slightly to the east, and resurfacing Highway 18 from the west edge of Sanborn, through town, all the way to Hartley.

So plan on a little extra travel time when driving Highway 18 this summer, then just take a deep breath, relax and enjoy the trip.

Here are a couple of photos of the construction scene……………..
