Hull, Iowa — The eastern half of Hull was without power for about two hours Saturday morning as the result of a construction accident.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened when 34-year old Joe Vollink of Boyden was operating a Case 580 Super N backhoe, clearing snow on the parking lot at First Reformed Church, located at 911 2nd Street in Hull, shortly after 8:30 Saturday morning. Deputies say Vollink struck a Mid-American Energy utility pole on the lot, knocking down power lines and two electrical transformers, causing the power outage that affected residential areas and businesses in eastern Hull.
No injuries were reported.
The utility pole, power lines and transformers sustained approximately $10,000 in damages, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
