Northwest Iowa — Forecasters say there’s a rising risk of severe weather across a wide portion of Iowa this Friday afternoon and evening, along with a drastic downshift in temperatures that may bring snow on Saturday. Meteorologist Jeff Chapman, at the National Weather Service office in Sioux Falls, says it’s a large, fast-moving system.
He says the warm temperatures of Thursday will continue into Friday to start things off.
He says it’s all caused by a massive low pressure system, but it’s hard to give just one forecast for the whole area.
He says things should start happening about 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. across western Iowa.
He says snowfall amounts in this area should remain fairly light, but visibility could be an issue.
He says to remain weather aware, and make your changes in plans now. He says travel especially to the north and west probably should be avoided this Friday night into Saturday morning.
