Area Middle School Singers To Take Part In “Middle School Opus” Honor Concert

Northwest Iowa — Middle School vocalists from northwest Iowa, and around the state, will be gathering in Ames Thursday for a very special music festival.

The Iowa Middle School Opus will be held tomorrow in Ames. The Middle School Opus is an honor choir for middle school singers, similar to the high school All-State Music Festival.

Acceptance to the Middle School Opus is done by audition, but unlike the high school festival, the Opus auditions are recorded, rather than being live auditions before a group of judges, and the students audition individually, rather than in a group. The student auditions are recorded at their individual schools, then submitted to a Processing Board, which selects the students who are accepted to sing in the Middle School Opus.

The music that was required of students for their auditions this year included, My Country Tis Of Thee, and a scale.
