Orange City, Iowa — A Sheldon man who faced multiple charges after an alleged altercation at a rural Sheldon home has been sentenced to two years in prison.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on September 21st, they arrested 25-year-old Shaun Arispe of Sheldon. He was charged with first-degree robbery, possession of a controlled substance, false imprisonment, and fourth-degree theft.
The Sheriff’s Office says the arrest stemmed from an altercation that occurred in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 20th, at a home near Sheldon.
Upon further investigation, deputies believed that Arispe was involved in a disturbance where he displayed a firearm in a threatening manner and prevented two people from leaving the home for nearly five hours. Deputies believed that during the disturbance, he assaulted the two victims and later took property from their home.
They believed he then allegedly forced the female victim to go with him to his home near Sheldon. They say she was later able to escape unharmed.
According to court records, Arispe accepted a plea bargain and was sentenced today (December 19, 2016). Records indicate that the First Degree Robbery charge was reduced to Assault. Arispe received a 30-day jail term — but with credit for time served, that sentence had already been served in full. He also received a fine of $625 plus charges and costs, and a suspended fine of $625. Plus the no-contact order in the case was extended for five years.
On the charge of Second Offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, Arispe was sentenced to two years in prison, again with credit for time served. He also received a fine of $625 plus costs, and a suspended fine of the same amount; his drivers’ license was revoked for 180 days; and he must submit a DNA profile.
According to court records, he was taken into custody immediately.
The court did not sentence Arispe on the counts of False Imprisonment or Fourth Degree Theft.
