Authorities Identify Victim Of Monday Crash Near Remsen

Remsen, Iowa — An Orange City teen has been identified as the victim of a two-vehicle crash near Remsen early Monday afternoon.

A 19-year old Orange City girl died Monday when her car collided with a semi-tractor trailer at the intersection of Highway 3 and L14 shortly before 1:00 Monday afternoon.

According to Authorities, the crash occurred when a southbound 2011 Mazda 6, driven by 19-year-old Hannah Tjernagle, of Orange City, for unknown reasons, failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the middle of a westbound semi, driven by 68-year-old Randy Laube, of Boone.

Tjernagle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to deputies. Laube was uninjured.

The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Remsen Ambulance, Fire and Police Departments, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT Motor Vehicle Enforcement, Iowa DOT Road Maintenance and Stockton Towing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office/Le Mars Police Accident Investigation Team with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol.
