Orange City, Iowa — A plea-taking and sentencing for a man who was arrested on a felony drug charge near Sioux Center has been pushed back a third time.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that on April 17th, one of their deputies arrested 43-year-old Omar Bautista Rodriguez of Sioux City. Authorities say Bautista‐Rodriguez was the subject of a joint drug investigation between the Sioux and Lyon County Sheriff’s Offices, and that he was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, a class C felony.
At last report, Bautista-Rodriguez was considering a plea agreement. His legal counsel requested the last continuance, when the plea-taking and sentencing was rescheduled for August 21st. This time, it was the prosecution requesting the continuance. County Attorney Thomas Kunstle filed a motion to continue, and it was granted by Judge Patrick Tott, who scheduled the plea-taking and sentencing hearing for Monday, August 28th at 11:00 a.m. in Sioux County District Court in Orange City.
