Northwest Iowa — As of mid-afternoon on Tuesday, the National Weather Service has expanded a blizzard warning to include all of northwest Iowa with the exception of Lyon County. A good deal of southwest Minnesota is now included as well, including Cottonwood, Jackson, Murray and Nobles counties. It goes into effect at 7:00 pm this (Tues.) evening and will continue until Noon Wednesday.
Forecasters say 1 to 3 inches of snow will fall, with higher amounts possible east of Highway 4 (the highway that runs from Estherville to Emmetsburg). They say a very strong wind, with gusts possibly as high as 60 mph, will combine with the falling snow to produce possible whiteout conditions.
Authorities are encouraging people to restrict travel to emergencies only while the warning is in effect.
