Boyden Woman Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize

Boyden, Iowa — A Boyden woman had a Christmas to remember this year, after claiming a $10,000 lottery prize.

Lottery officials say Anne Phillips of Boyden won the big prize in the Iowa Lottery’s “$100,000 Holiday Crossword” scratch game.

Phillips talks about how she and her boyfriend discovered they’d won.

They had purchased the winning ticket at Hy-Vee in Sheldon, but instead of driving in to town to check the ticket at the store, they downloaded the Iowa Lottery mobile app to scan the ticket and verify their win.

Phillips lost her nursing job in March at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said the win was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult year.

She said that she has several plans for her winnings.

The $100,000 Holiday Crossword game is a $10 scratch game that features seven top prizes of $100,000, 15 prizes of $10,000 and overall odds of 1 in 3.30.

Players can enter nonwinning holiday scratch tickets into the lottery’s Winner Wonderland® Play It Again® promotion from now through 8:59 a.m. on Jan. 5. The promotion features $640,000 in cash prizes, including a $250,000 grand prize. For rules and complete details, visit ialottery.com.
