CAASA Faces Funding Cuts, Seeks Donations

Northwest Iowa — The good news is that victims of sexual assault in our area can seek help via the Centers Against Abuse and Sexual Assault — or CAASA — based in Spencer. The bad news is that funding for CAASA has decreased recently, but you can help.

Jacquie Kehoe, the executive director of CAASA tells us about their funding cuts.

She tells us about some fundraising efforts in the past.

Kehoe says their newest fundraiser is on Facebook and is called the “Ribbon Campaign.”

She says that if you want to take advantage of that opportunity, just go to their Facebook page and donate.

Kehoe tells us how the funding cuts are manifesting themselves right now.

She says that they also did not replace two staff members who resigned, and staff did not get raises this year, so that has helped as well. Plus, they have started applying for more grants such as Community Foundation grants, which could help buy curriculum or send someone to training.

She says their county care groups help them come up with ideas for fundraising and awareness. For more information, or to donate, you can call 712-262-4612 or visit www.caasaonline.org.
