Hospers, Iowa — A call of a car fire turned into an arrest of a Le Mars man in Hospers early Wednesday.
The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office reports that just before 3:20 a.m., 26-year-old David DeBoer of Le Mars was driving a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound on Highway 60 when the vehicle started on fire on the roadway.
No injuries were reported.
The Pontiac sustained approximately $2,000 in damage.
However, upon further investigation the deputy suspected that DeBoer was under the influence of alcohol.
DeBoer was arrested and was charged with operating while intoxicated, fourth offense (which is a felony), operating a motor vehicle while barred from having a driver’s license, operating a motor vehicle while his driver’s license was revoked, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license and failure to have high risk SR‐22 insurance.
The Sheriff’s Office says the Hospers Fire Department and Hospers Ambulance crew assisted them.
