Central Lyon High School To Hold Blood Drive January 11th

Rock Rapids, Iowa — It’s a new year, you can start the year by giving blood at Central Lyon High School on January 11th.

Ken Versteeg, from the Community Blood Bank, tells us that with the bad winter weather, it has become very crucial to give blood.

Canceling ten blood drives have cost the Community Blood Bank about 1,000 units of blood. This is making it hard to keep blood supplied at local hospitals.

Versteeg says he has a reminder for everyone.

If you recently had COVID, you must be symptom free for five days before you can give blood Versteeg says. That means if you test positive you can not give blood according to Versteeg, but if you go through the illness and then have five days of absolutely no symptoms you are able to give blood.

If you would like to make an appointment to give blood visit cbblifeblood.org or call (605) 331-3222. Versteeg says they will take walk ins, but appointments will take priority.

The Community Blood Bank will be at Central Lyon High School on January 11th from 7:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
