Changes Coming to Hartley Family Care Clinic in January

Hartley, Iowa — Several improvements are headed to Hartley Family Care Clinic in 2025.

The Spencer Hospital owns the clinic, and officials there say they are “thrilled” to announce several enhancements to their healthcare services beginning in January 2025. They tell us the changes reflect the clinic’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible, high-quality healthcare to Hartley and the surrounding communities.

Officials say Doctor of Osteopathy Dr. Craig Simons, will be joining the Hartley Family Care team to see patients on several Thursdays each month. Dr. Simons is currently a hospitalist at Spencer Hospital and will bring his expertise to the Hartley community. A graduate of the University of Health Sciences, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, MO, Dr. Simons completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine. His addition to the team will expand access to care for Hartley Family Care Clinic patients.

Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Jamie Billings will continue to provide exceptional care as the clinic’s primary provider. Billings sees patients four days a week, offering a full range of family practice services, including preventative care, treatment of episodic illnesses, chronic disease management, physicals, and referrals to specialists. She specializes in diabetes management, cardiac issues, and women’s health. Billings is also a Certified Menopause Practitioner through North American Menopause Society.

Brenda Tiefenthaler, Spencer Hospital’s President says, “Access to quality healthcare in our region is a priority for Spencer Hospital and our clinics, including Hartley Family Care Clinic. To meet the healthcare needs of Hartley and the surrounding communities, we felt it was important to add an additional provider to care for patients.”

In addition to family care services, Hartley Family Care Clinic also offers Orthopedic consultations and Physical Therapy. Certified Physician Assistant Kaitlyn McDermitt from Northwest Iowa Bone, Joint & Sports Surgeons, will see patients once a month. McDermitt earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Kettering College in Kettering, OH, and specializes in orthopedic care.

Clinic officials tell us they are also pleased to welcome Master of Physical Therapy Joleen Stout, a new physical therapist who will see patients in Hartley and Spencer. Stout, who they’re calling “a valued addition to Spencer Hospital’s Physical and Rehabilitative Services team,” is a familiar face in the Hartley community and looks forward to serving local patients.
