Northwest Iowa — Despite recent rain in some areas, most of Iowa is still rated as abnormally dry or in moderate to extreme drought — and fire officials are urging extreme caution when it comes to fireworks. Richard Beaver is a northwest Iowa fire chief.

If you do intend to shoot off fireworks, Beaver’s advice is to do so in an open area where you can see where they land.
And fireworks ordinances differ by community. Make sure you know the rules before you light your fireworks. One common feature of northwest Iowa fireworks ordinances is that you can only light them on your own property, or with permission on someone else’s.
