City Council To Talk Grants, Police Dogs at Wednesday Meeting

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets Wednesday afternoon they’ll hold a public hearing on the City’s USDA Rural Development Grant Application.

The grant would be used to help offset the costs involved for the purchase of equipment for SCAT, Sheldon Police, Sheldon Fire and Sheldon EMA.

The Council is also expected to talk about the acquisition and training of a dog for the Sheldon Police Department. Total costs involved should reach about $40-thousand dollars.

In other action, the Council will hear a report from City Manager Sam Kooiker regarding the vacancies on the Cemetery Board, as well as the Zoning Board of Adjustment. Both those vacancies opened up when Doug Rodger resigned because he was planning to move from the community.

The Council will go into closed session to discuss the contract with the majority of Sheldon City employees, for fiscal year 2021-2022.

Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30. While the meeting is open to the public, officials urge you to sit in on the council meeting virtually, via Zoom, by clicking HERE
