City Of Alton Issues Boil Advisory

Alton, Iowa — The Alton Water Supply is recommending boiling water before drinking or to use an alternative source.

Alton officials say that Alton Water Supply is operating on a temporary connection between Orange City and Alton for a few days. Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, it is recommended that the water be boiled before using for drinking or cooking, or that an alternative source be used.

Officials recommend bringing all water to a boil, letting it boil for one minute, then letting it cool before using, or alternatively, to use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes without boiling, according to officials.
