UPDATE: BOIL ADVISORY LIFTED – City Of George Issues A Drinking Water Advisory

George, Iowa — The City of George has announced the lifting of the Drinking Water Advisory issued Monday.

A Wednesday morning email from George City Clerk Loralye Wibben says that all bacteria levels in the City’s water are safe, and the boil advisory has been lifted.

The advisory was issued after a contractor hit a water line, causing the city’s water supply to have a loss in pressure. After repairs were made and the system re-pressurized and flushed, officials were waiting for laboratory results on bacteria samples they had submitted for testing. Those reports have now come back, and George city officials say the city’s water is safe to drink and cook with.

George, Iowa — The City of George is recommending that residents boil their water before drinking it, or to use an alternative water source until further notice.

According to a release from the City of George, their water supply had a pressure loss when a contractor hit a water line. Due to the potential for bacterial contamination, they recommend that water be boiled, or an alternative water source be used, for drinking or cooking.

They advise you to bring all water to a boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. According to the City of George, boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.

Officials say the water may be used for bathing and other similar purposes.

The City has re-pressurized the system, flushed it and will collect bacteria samples. Officials say the boil advisory is a precaution until bacteria sample results are available. They say residents will be notified when those results are available and the advisory is lifted.
