City Working To Rezone Housing Development

Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council met Wednesday afternoon they approved a change to a zoning ordinance affecting a residential property just outside the city limits.

Sheldon City Manager Sam Kooiker says the property that was rezoned at Wednesday’s meeting is in a small residential subdivision located southwest of the Sheldon Country Club. An area which Kooiker says should have been rezoned years ago.

Unfortunately, Kooiker says the properties were not rezoned at that earlier time.

Kooiker says he took steps earlier this year to correct that zoning situation.

He says most of the property owners agreed to having their properties rezoned.

If approved at the Planning & Zoning Commission’s May 12th meeting, the issue would be returned to the Sheldon City Council for zoning amendments for those properties, as well.
