Cold Temperatures To Visit Us, But A Warm Up Is In Sight

Northwest Iowa — Winter is officially here, and it’s going to feel like it for the next few days.

The National Weather Service Forecast calls for below zero lows for the next couple of days before temperatures rebound somewhat.

Andrew Kalin is a forecaster with the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, and he tells us what’s bringing us the sub-zero temperatures.

Kalin says we can take heart, however, because the cold snap will be reasonably short-lived.

Even with the frigid temperatures for the next couple of days, it will still be substantially warmer than this time last year. A quick glimpse into the KIWA Weather Archives reveals that the high temperature on New Year’s Day, 2018 was a balmy 12-degrees BELOW zero, with the 24-hour low dipping all the way down to 26-below, with the low of 28-below recorded on January 2nd of 2018.
