Cooperative Energy Company Delivers $5,000 Grant To Rock Rapids Mural Society

Rock Rapids, Iowa — The organization behind the murals in Rock Rapids has received $5000 toward their continuation and upkeep from a local business and its brand.

The 36 murals in Rock Rapids were honored as a source of pride to the community by Cooperative Energy Company and Cenex®, the energy brand of CHS. As part of this award, the Rock Rapids Mural Society received a $5,000 grant to support the preservation of these historic murals.

Covering the sides of various buildings in Rock Rapids, the murals showcase notable portraits and memorialize the area’s historical moments. Local volunteer firemen, past wars that community members have served in, the area’s heritage of farming, and more adorn walls in Rock Rapids.

Since its inception in 2002, the Rock Rapids Mural Society has been dedicated to preserving the historic town murals. The organization plans to use the grant money to maintain and repair current murals, as well as create new ones.

Hillary Halverson, marketing and communications manager at Cooperative Energy Company says that the murals in Rock Rapids tell stories of our area’s rich history in a unique way. She says they’re proud to support their preservation for future generations to enjoy and explore.

The grant was provided through an initiative that encourages Cenex dealers, retailers, and distributors to share stories about what makes their local communities special. In its third year, the initiative will grant more than $100,000 to Cenex communities this year.

Mark Vanderlinde, communications manager at CHS says that the Cenex brand is committed to supporting and celebrating “what makes hometowns across America special.” He says that they are proud of their Cenex dealers, like Cooperative Energy Company, who “play an active role in enriching their community’s culture.”
