Sheldon, Iowa — When the Sheldon City Council meets Wednesday October 19th they will hold two Public Hearings. The first will be on an easement request from HTC Communications. The easements concern areas beginning near 1820 East 6th Street, going south to travel along both the North and East property lines of East Lawn Cemetery. This will make it possible for HTC to replace old coaxial cable with new fiber optic cable in that area.
The second Public Hearing will be on the rezoning of a parcel of land between Highway 18 and East 4th Street. This is land owned by the Sheldon Community School District. The School Districts electronic sign is located on this property along Highway 18. The sign includes the names of businesses in the community, and the Iowa Department of Transportation has informed the school district that since that property is zoned Residential Multiple the sign does not comply with IDOT regulations. Therefore, to keep the sign in its present location with the current signage it is necessary to change the zoning designation to Arterial Commercial.
In other business, the council will hear a presentation by Justice for All.
Wednesday’s council meeting will begin at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
