Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet this Wednesday, October 4th, with a public hearing on the issuance of General Obligation Loan Notes not to exceed $3,780,000. The bonds would be used to finance twenty-five percent of the cost of the Wastewater Treatment Plant upgrade, as well as all of the costs of the 16th Street Project.
The Council will also hear a presentation from the Library Board. The Board is planning a major renovation of the library which was built in 1969. The Board says even though the needs of today are much different than they were in 1969, little has been done to bring it up to date. They say the space is no longer used effectively, technology needs of today are not being met, the environment is not inviting or comfortable, and the furnishings are tired and worn out. The Board expects the full cost of the renovations to be $199,950. The Board is committed to applying fifty thousand dollars from their foundation and will be asking the City to commit matching dollars of fifty thousand. The Remaining one hundred thousand dollars will be sought from members of the community.
In other business, the council will consider approval of an Underground Electric Easement request from MidAmerican Energy. This is for the area near the Waterworks. They will also be asked to approve a resolution which will allow a property tax exemption for the new units being built by Prairie Trail Village, LLC. The arrangement is similar to that which was offered in Trilogy Addition to encourage construction of more multi-family residential facilities.
The final item on the agenda will more than likely be discussed in closed session because it will concern a possible purchase of property.
Wednesday’s meeting begins at 4:30 in the upper level of the Sheldon Community Services Center.
