December Ends Warmer And Wetter, With No Snow In Sheldon

Sheldon, Iowa — The month of December 2023 was much warmer and a little wetter than normal in Sheldon. But none of the precip fell as snow, which is pretty unusual for December.

According to the weather facts collected by KIWA Radio, the highest high was 57 degrees, recorded on December 7th. The lowest high temperature was 23 degrees, recorded on December 31st.

The lowest low in the month was 12 degrees on December 10th. We recorded no below-zero temperatures this December. The highest low was 34 on December 15th.

The average high for the month was 40. The normal is 30. The average low was 23. The normal is 11. The average temperature as-a-whole for the month was 32 degrees, and normally it’s 21.

We received 2.12 inches of precipitation for December. A normal December sees 0.93 inches, so we were above normal for the month by 1.19 inches. All precip received in 2023 totaled up to 29.61 inches. Normal precip for a year would be 27.63, so we ended 2023 0.93 inches above normal. The day with the most precip was Christmas Eve, December 24th, when we received 0.68 inches of rain.
