Boyden, Iowa — We told you last week about a layoff at Dethmers Manufacturing, commonly known as Demco, in Boyden. Demco officials have now given us more information on that situation.
According to a release from Demco, a significant drop in demand for some of their products, mostly agricultural, forced them to make adjustments to their staff, effective Wednesday, August 26th. The release describes the situation as a permanent layoff of approximately ten percent of their workforce in various departments.
Demco says they greatly value every staff member, including those involved in the layoff, and strive to keep all employed when market conditions support it. They say they will continue to do everything they can to retain their current workforce, while maintaining a company position that supports the community and needs of their customers.
