DOT Gives Highway 59 Construction Update

Northwest Iowa — It’s been said that Iowa has two seasons: snow removal and road construction. Road construction season continues, with work being done on Highway 59 in O’Brien County.

We talked to Iowa Department of Transportation Planner Dakin Schultz recently, and he gave us an update of things going on in O’Brien County this summer.

He gives us some details of the project.

Schultz gives us a heads-up about a couple of projects that will happen next year in the area.

A18 and Highway 59 is three miles north of Highway 9 on 59, or about six miles south of the junction of Highway 59 and Highway 60 in Minnesota.

The DOT Transportation Commission recently approved its five-year plan. On it is turning Highway 75 through Sioux Center into an enhanced four-lane with medians in the next few years, and a blacktop replacement project between Rock Rapids and Larchwood which will start yet this summer and be completed in 2020.

The DOT says you can always go to 511ia.org to check your route for construction projects before you leave.
