EMA Director: Some Flood Losses Are Deductible: Check With Your Tax Preparer; Also Check Your Insurance Coverage

Northwest Iowa — If you had flood damage from last summer’s flooding, whether you received any kind of assistance from the government or not — Emergency Management officials are suggesting that you check with your tax preparer, as you — OR YOUR BUSINESS — might be eligible for deductions or tax relief.

O’Brien County Emergency Management Director Jared Johnson tells us more.

He tells us there’s one piece in “casualty losses” that he thinks is really important for people to know about.

Johnson says there are some items that he’s been suggesting that victims have ready to go when they talk taxes.

He says many people also found out — some of them too late — that their insurance doesn’t cover the losses that they had.
