Sheldon, Iowa — Another large donation has been made to the Sheldon Community Schools-Northwest Iowa Community College Turf Project.
Orab AD Eric Maassen has announced that Farm Credit Services has contributed $10,000 toward the project. Maassen says less than $100,000 remains to be raised to cover the $1.4 million cost of the project.
The turf upgrade will be located on the current Sheldon Orab football field, and is a collaborative project between the Sheldon Community School District, Northwest Iowa Community College and the City of Sheldon.
The new playing surface will be used for the Orab football team, soccer program and the marching band. Additionally, Northwest Iowa Community College will be utilizing the grounds when they begin their intercollegiate soccer program, which is slated to begin in Fall 2024.
Fundraising for the project began this summer, and has a goal to be completed by the end of December. Groundbreaking for the project is slated to begin next Spring 2022, with use by the Sheldon Community Schools in the Fall of 2022.
