Fundraising For Turf Field 87% Complete

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon Community School District and Northwest Iowa Community College have announced that they are on pace to reach the $1.4 million goal for their joint Turf Field project.

As of Friday morning, $1.2 million or 87% of the goal has been raised, according to school officials. The project includes construction of a professional grade turf surface on the current Orab football field and upgrading the scoreboard to a state-of-the-art digital video scoreboard.

Sheldon Community Schools Superintendent Cory Myer says they are extremely grateful for their friends and partners who share the vision of making this project a reality.  He says the project is appealing to many people because it will truly benefit so many entities, and He is thrilled to see the project progress.

The turf upgrade is a collaborative project between the Sheldon Community Schools, Northwest Iowa Community College and the City of Sheldon.  The new playing surface will be used for the Orab football team, soccer program and the marching band.  Additionally, Northwest Iowa Community College will be utilizing the grounds when they begin their intercollegiate soccer program, which is slated to begin in Fall 2024.

The goal is to have fundraising completed before December 31, 2021. Groundbreaking for the project is slated to begin in Spring 2022, with use by the Sheldon CSD in the Fall of 2022.
