Sheldon, Iowa — Greg Geels was sworn in as Sheldon’s new mayor at a special city council meeting Monday, and the council has elected to use the appointment process to fill the vacant at-large council seat vacated when Geels became mayor, with the procedure to be discussed at the April 17th regular meeting. If by Wednesday the City has received a petition to hold a special election for Mayor, they will have a special election for the Council seat at the same time as well.
Geels told the council that serving on the body for the past seven years and three months has been a rewarding experience and he’s enjoyed working with and getting to know many talented individuals in the process. He also commented on the progress that has been made as a community. Geels said he is deeply committed to the community and with God’s help will seek to serve its citizens to the best of his ability.
At the recommendation of the new Mayor, Brad Hindt was re-appointed as Mayor Pro Tem.
