Sheldon, Iowa – Unseasonably warm temperatures brought crowds of people out for the SCDC Kickoff to Christmas Celebration Saturday.
Activities were held in conjunction with the event all day Saturday, and included activities for kids of all ages. The festivities began at 8am with Eating with the Elves at the Sheldon Hy-Vee, then continued with Visit Santa at the Prairie Arts Historical Park. There was a North Pole Vendor Fair at the Sheldon Community Services Center, a free showing of the movie “Polar Express” at the Krull Cinema downtown, the opportunity to write and mail a letter to Santa at Blossom and Bride Boutique, the Story of the Candy Cane at Touch of Hope downtown, Kids Storytime and Craft at the Sheldon Public Library, Grin with the Grinch at the Framing and Gift Gallery, a Make Your Wishlist event at Mastbergen Jewelry, Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides downtown all afternoon, with the entire day culminating with the Kickoff to Christmas Parade of Lights through downtown Sheldon.

The Parade of Lights, and the Kickoff to Christmas came to a close when Santa rode through the parade route in a horse-drawn wagon.
