Heitkamp Does Final Severe Weather Talk, Accepts Promotion

Northwest Iowa — A familiar face to storm spotters in northwest Iowa has given his final severe weather talk, and is accepting a promotion at the National Weather Service.

Todd Heitkamp of the Sioux Falls National Weather Service Station gave his final severe weather talk Wednesday night, culminating more than twenty years of severe weather instruction.

Heitkamp says he has received a promotion, and will be the Meteorologist In Charge of the Sioux Falls Weather Station.

We asked him how the promotion came about.

Heitkamp explains the job of the Meteorologist In Charge.

The Meteorologist In Charge position opened up when the former MIC transferred to the St. Louis Weather Station of the National Weather Service.

Heitkamp assumed his new role effective this past Monday, May 14th.
