Hello Winter….For A While

Northwest Iowa — The weather in our area over the past few days has been downright nice…if you discount the howling winds, but National Weather Service Forecaster Matthew Dux says winter weather is on the way.

(As above) “After a very beautiful week across much of the region, we’re looking at a potential for winter weather, including accumulating snow moving back into the region beginning as early as Tuesday morning.”

Dux says the good news is that the howling winds we’ve been experiencing have died down.

(As above) “The winds, thankfully, have come to an end. We may still see some gusts to twenty or MAYBE thirty miles an hour over the next day or two, but nothing, NOTHING like we’ve seen over the past forty-eight hours or so across much of the area.”

He says even though the winds have died down, we can still expect travel to be impacted on Tuesday.

(As above) “Travel will be impacted on Tuesday. We are looking for the potential for a handful of inches of snow and that has increased over the past day or so in the forecast. So while the winds aren’t going to be overly strong and we’re not going to see a lot of drifting snow, I would still plan on roads becoming slick, especially by daybreak Tuesday and probably continuing into Tuesday night.”

Dux says do not despair, however, as there is a warmup on the way, as well.

(As above) “We’ll have a slow climb. We’re going to stay into the 30’s, maybe low 40’s through the middle of the week. But the good news is, by the upcoming weekend, the latest guidance does kinda show us getting back into the 50’s and believe it or not that’s going to be back above normal, potentially, by next weekend.”

So, it looks this week will prove the old adage, “This is Iowa. If you don’t like the weather wait five minutes and it will change.”
